About James W. LaVeck
Filmmaker. Actor. Author. Coach. Dad. Project manager.
It’s an eclectic mix — but every piece adds depth to the stories I tell.
It took me over 20 years to tell my story out loud. I started writing it in 1997, just two years after the death of my first spouse. I was 30 at the time — and while the words came, the timing wasn’t right.
I didn’t feel ready to share it until late 2019, after another two decades of perspective and the grief of losing a second spouse. It was only through living, healing, and rebuilding that I could tell the story truthfully — not just with pain, but with clarity and hope.
That story became Life After Losses, released on the 7th anniversary of that second loss. I followed it with Moving Past Grief and Grief Recovery for Adults, which introduces the PURPOSE framework — a guide for rediscovering self and meaning after loss.
But writing wasn’t the only way I reclaimed my voice. I returned to something I’d always loved: performance. Acting on stage and screen. Producing films. Telling truth through character and story. I rediscovered the joy of creating — not in spite of grief, but because of what grief taught me.
Today, I write, perform, and coach with one goal in mind: inspiring transformation. Whether through words, film, or stage, I help others navigate their turning points and find purpose in the stories they carry — even in the hardest parts of life.
